I heard Ford will have a King Ranch version of the Expediton for 2020 and I was wondering if anyone knew what the King Ranch version would include? Such as what options it might have that the Limited doesn't have and what the Platinum might have that the King Ranch does not have? The dealer I talked to didn't have that info at hand--or at least he hasn't got back to me with it.

The KR is a level between Limited and Platinum but not entirely. King Ranch is kind of its own deal, a bit separate of the regular trims. It can be optioned exactly the same as the Platinum on the F-150 down to every option.

It will include all features on Limited plus a few standard. It will have optional massaging seats and luxury features like the F-150. Fun fact is if you build and price them both maxed out the King Ranch is more expensive than the Platinum. This is likely because some stuff is standard on the Platinum like the massaging seats which they charge for in the KR. KR will likely have LED lights standard as well like F-150.

Does it get the genuine heavy saddle leather like the old ones or that dark brown/burgundy dyed regular stuff with piping they had in late years 3rd gens?

I thought the old stuff was hella sexy (and I'm no cowboy wannabe at all). The new stuff looked meh.

The leather is shit and scratches if you fart on it. You couldn’t pay me to have a king ranch.

Other leather is sh*t*

King Ranch saddle leather is high quality leather off good hides that requires paste and care as quality leathers do. You most likely have bottom barrel plastic coated leather sanded down off bad hides to get all the tick bites and scars out of it. You can’t even call what’s in the Limited leather, it’s more like plasticized scar tissue.

It goes even further, King Ranch uses genuine leather on seat backs and supports. Limited and Platinum use vinyl.

Both work, but don’t call a superior product sh*t, that’s like pulling up in a Cobalt saying a Bentley is trash.

It’s too high maintenance. The leather in my platinum is great and the leather in my BMW 760 is the bees knees. If I want to ride around on something I have to take care of like a saddle I’ll buy another horse.

Brrrrt... just scratched your leather

Once it tears you'll see

It's paper thin leather sitting on a synthetic backing at best (Navigators, maybe Platinums and/or Limiteds front seats ), heavy duty rough vinyl at worst (Eddies, upgraded XLTs, third rows all of the above, etc)

PS i've repaired torn Gator leather and replaced an Eddie Bauer interior with aftermarket leather with my own two hands, so I'm better qualified than most to tell you what is or isn't where

Somebody posted a condensed version of tbe 2020 order guide, i cant because its too big.

The kr will be based from the ltd 302 pkg. From there the diff are:

-del rio leather for first and sec rows
-std capt chairs in sec row
-stone gray exterior appliques
-king ranch badging

No mutli contour seats are available with kr in the expy.

I feel like otger changes or new additions are being slightly downplayed:

-new xlt option pkgs
-fx4 opt on ltd trim
-increased opt flexibility

You hit the nail on the head on how they do these interiors. Eddie Bauer interior is leather trimmed same as the Limited and Platinum. The middle portion of the seat bottom and back is leather, the rest is vinyl and you can feel the differences if your looking between the two materials.

The XLT “Leather” is all just vinyl, no leather to be found where Eddie Bauer and above at least had it in the seating portion.

Thanks, That was more of what I was looking for although I liked reading the other responses! I don't want 2nd row bucket seats so that will pretty well eliminate the KR version but I'll have to check out what the other levels offer---might even be interested in an XLT with the right options.

If you don't want second row buckets, I get it, but there are a countless upholstery shops that can create a matching King Ranch bench. By a creating a bench I mean expertly removing the outboard captains chairs arm rests, corrective surgery, as well as redo/install a center seat. Walk in the park for a shop in business for more than 10 years.

The KR buyer is buying it FOR the interior. Don't settle with another trim level if its the KR interior you want.

Side note - I've not seen the 2020 buyers guide - does standard 2nd row captains apply to both SWB and MAX?

I dont know the leather in my BMW X6 M has been replaced already in the driver and passenger front seats, it seems to be subpar for a $100K vehicle. Ive always enjoyed and had good luck with KR leather.
