Has anyone had this issue when shutting of their expedition? Sounds like the exhaust is expanding, & pebbles are bouncing around inside the exhaust. I can’t attach a video. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I haven’t had the issue.

An underbody heat-shield issue can cause the noises you are describing. Have you checked to see if any are loose or damaged, or bent against another part of the vehicle?

Any driveability issues? Any check-engine light? If one or both catalytic converters are defective and the honeycomb inside is defective, it can cause a rattling noise as you describe.

Had the local ford dealer inspect it, they claim it’s normal and just the exhaust cooling down. I believe they’re wrong, as this doesn’t happen to any others

Definitely sounds like the heat shield. Have you noticed this sound in the past or did it just start recently ?
It would also be more noticeable in cooler temperatures. Not sure if its been cooler where you live.

Metal expands and contracts when you heat cool it. Its just cooling off.

Our 2016, 2019, and our current 2024 have done this, along with the last 2 F150's that we have owned. I believe it is the catalytic converter cooling off after shutdown. Metal expands when hot and will go back to it's original size after cooling off.

My 2020 does this, though nowhere near as loud. It doesn't do it much on short trips around town where things don't heat up to full temps. I don't know of any car I've ever owned that didn't do this at least a little.

My 2021 doesn't do this BUT like others stated it definitely sounds like metal cooling off. Everything factory under there or has something been replaced like the Cat converter or heat shield?

Mine makes that same exact sound, but maybe not quite as loud, but I don't lean underneath to hear it either. Its just the exhaust cooling off.
