2022 Stealth with weird sound system issues

The other day when I got into the vehicle there was fairly loud "boom" noise. I looked around and could see nothing wrong. After driving a bit I turned up the radio to find out there was no sound at all. I tried pushing the "talk" button on the steering wheel and again there was no sound, but the call actually went through.

I called the dealer and made an appointment for a fix.

Today the sound system is working just fine! Crazy!

Has anyone else ever heard of an issue like that?

Issue number 2 with the sound system. Several times I've been listening to the radio and all of a sudden all of the sound is coming from the speaker on the left side only. The sound is not balanced between all the speakers. The next time I used the vehicle the sound system was fine. Has anyone ever heard of THAT happening before?

Other than that, I love the vehicle.

I had two audio issues. I had the loud pop and then no audio. And I had the screeching noise that wouldn’t turn off. I made and appointment and they did the radio flash update but they said that only works about 50% of the time. If that doesn’t work they have to replace something with the amplifier. That was back in July and I haven’t had any issues since, and it was only those two times.

But man the first time I thought the pop blew out the speakers.

Anyone else have this popping noise issue? My sound system is still working, but I wouldn't be surprised if this issue returns.

Curious if the issue has ever returned. It happened to me this morning for the first time and the pop was painful, especially for the kids. I want to make sure I get a permanent fix.

While we're waiting for feedback from @haviland on your question, I'll offer a few things...

SSM 51926's DSP software update recommendation applied to Expeditions equipped with the B&O 12-speaker sound system (IDBAP) and the B&O 22-speaker sound system (IDBBR).

In response to your post, I checked the communications archive and SSM 51926 no longer shows up, and I do not recall any subsequent communication about the described symptoms.

With that said, I checked DSP software-level status on two random Expeditions equipped with B&O sound systems.

A 2022 Expedition Limited with the 12-speaker system had not been updated since November 2022 and Ford's Professional Technician System (PTS) shows a DSP update is now available.

A 2022 Expedition Platinum with the 22-speaker system had been updated on March 17, 2025, and PTS also shows that a DSP update is now available.

In both cases, the prior DSP software updates appear to have occurred Over-The-Air (OTA), since no record exists of the vehicles having been worked on by a dealership technician during those timeframes.

I just read this post this morning and I guess I jinxed myself. This just happened to me about an hour ago.
I turned on my 22 timberline and what sounded like a loud blast of air and everything went silent. All I get now is what sounds like ice cracking through the speakers.
I'll have to call my dealer tomorrow.

And this morning, I started it up and the audio was fine. Not sure what is happening with it. I'll have to see what the dealer says about the software update.
