My dad's interested in upgrading from his 04 expy to an 09+ EL. Does anyone know if a 4x8 sheet of plywood will fit with all the rear seats folded down?

Yepper. I think that's really the whole point of the EL.

The full cargo space of the EL is cavernous and wonderful. It’s also perfectly flat, which was a major consideration for me. My only complaint is the lack of tie downs or D-rings.

It'll fit in a lot of cars/trucks/suvs. But you can actually close the rear gate in an EL expedition! One of the biggest reasons I went looking for one, and ironically enough I still havent had to move a full sheet of anything since buying it a few months ago.

You can also fit 13' 2x with hatch glass closed. I often find myself hauling 18' PVC trim with it open.

It's the main reason I bought mine. 10 sheets of 1/2" 4 x 8 9 ply Baltic birch at about 66# per sheet. Never knew it was back there from driving or sagging. Flat deck too, I never liked the pitch on the newer Suburbans...

You can do it with a standard length too, I moved 4x8 sheets with my last short bus. Obviously you need to strap the liftgate closed.

Heck, I hauled my daughter's 14-ft kayak in my standard wheel base '17. Yep, had to tie the hatch down. Lack of tie-downs made this a bit of a challenge.

If I had a rack maybe. Just a couple cross bars and no padding. One time deal and no need to hoist it to the roof. Heck, I need a stool to check the oil on this truck.

YES very much so
i use a thick blanket to protect the seat backs and sides of the trim.
i have had lots of 2x6 in there as well and one ten footer up across the console.
key is slow and mindful placement to prevent damage to interior

I put a 4x4 12 foot (I think it was) in my 1999 Expy. It just barely fit (at an angle) and went all the way to the windshield. Well, it looked like it fit. I wasn't sure so I closed the liftgate to see. No it didn't fit, it pushed the windshield and cracked it. I cannot believe some if the stupid $hit I've done over the years.

I "think" I got a 4x8 in my 2003 Expy once by sliding seats forward and tilting the backs up. Could be wrong.

Oh you can transport lots of stuff at an angle/suspended/whatever...I once hauled an entire Expedition interior, including the headliner --- held up over my head --- inside an Expedition in one go

They're talking about the lay flat (or stack), close the hatch, and drive in full comfort kind of hauling

No, just set them on a moving blanket on top of the center of the dashboard. I only had two at that length stacked, i dont think 3 or more will fit because of windshield angle.

We've put our 10' paddleboards in the back of our EL as well....

its a beast i have a yukon xl 04 and the plywood would fit but lacked about 2" closing the hatch . my expedition has a couple of inches to spare. Yukon has more space with the 3rd seat up for luggage than the expedition l but the expedition seams to spsced seats for better leg room. Highway patrol has a long wheel base w seats removed w a 8" bedliner in i that slides out for carring equipment to accidents.

4' x 8' fits with ease.

My favorite stare-inducing load was 2 10' laminate countertops. Loaded them through the rear with the center second row seat folded down, rested them on the front center console, closed the hatch, and off I went.

These trucks are at least as functional as any pickup I've owned and way more practical.
