4R70W to 4R100 swap

I know the answer might be in here somewhere but after an hour of searching I`m going to ask, My moms 1998 4.6 2wd expeditions tranny has no reverse, it has a U in the tranny code so I know its a 4R70W, searched my local craigs list found one 2 hours away, was told it is out of a 99 with a 4.6 2wd, got it home and checked the #s on the tag, (something I should have done before buying) and it is a 4R100, tag # YL7P-AA. my question is will this plug and play in my moms 98 4.6, he swears that it was behind a 4.6 in a 99 expedition, he sold the motor and only had a few parts left from it. Any help would be great, Thanks Rick

From what I know of the two transmissions they are not plug and play. You need the computer from the 99 and wiring harness to work with the 4r100. That transmission is a tougher unit, so it might be worth the hassle of swapping all of that over. But if he lied to you about what the trans was I suspect the unit itself might not work.
