Is this a new unit or a Reman on the sift motor, id prefer to to a new one. Ford Parts has entire tranfer cases for $2,300 New it says.
It's brand new. I have been buying my Ford parts from them because they discount them better than anybody else that I have found. I bought the chrome mirror caps from them and saved almost $60 over what my local dealer wanted for them.

I had the same issue with my old Explorer. Unfortunately, I discovered it while out in freezing rain and ended up upside down at the bottom of a ravine. Good times.

My 02 Explorer never gave me 4WD troubles once... can’t say that for this truck.

Haven’t checked that. I doubt My measly $200 scanner would pick up anything from the 4WD system, probably need one of those fancy mechanic ones, I’ll prob still be taking it to ford after the holiday.
I have a Bluedriver obd2 scanner and can read everything. Its $100 and will read the 4wd system. Not that it helps you now but might be worth a look

It is worth giving the scanner a try. You might pull a code.

Wasn’t able to pull a code. Finally in for the night after driving a round to everyone’s houses for Christmas Eve, it’s been snowing hard and the truck was sliding everywhere and I’ve totally lost all patience with it, I’ll drive the Super Duty until I can get this damn thing fixed. I had it set to 4x4 High and it was telling me 4x4 auto on the dash while not working at all, some module is shot somewhere because it’s totally got a mind of its own. Sometimes it works, sometimes it won’t display on the dash, sometimes it will but isn’t working, and as of today it displays 4x4 auto and high interchangeably with no change to the dial. Totally has a mind of its own.

Sorry to hear that. I had to pick up my daughter from work tonight we had about 4" on the ground at 6:30 They hadn't touched the road. I started out using 4A and then kicked it into 4H I was driving at about 27 MPH. There was no point in pushing it as I only had to go about 2 miles.

Nice. Yea at this point I’m letting the dealer handle it because it’s soemthing I don’t have the time to chase down as it’s not a simple item. Looking like a module or motor and at this time of the year and with the work I have piled up I just don’t have time. I’m dropping it off Tuesday and driving away in the SD and won’t be taking it back until they have fixed every single thing broken on it in every nook and cranny down to my rear wiper and my 3 ugly chromeless lug nuts.

I get that. I hate when my stuff doesn't work the way it's supposed to work.

I've had the 4WD electronic control module replaced twice (along with complete rebuild of the transfer case) because the module told the tcase to go into 4wd all the time and wore it out. That's what Ford told me at least.

This thing never seems to work right. In 4wheel auto if the rears start to slip the traction control light blinks, power is cut and you're sitting there spinning. It pretty much just RWD. I've not had bad enough conditions to check every mode, but last night in ice the truck did ok in 4High. I'd still have rather been driving my Subaru though. At least I know the AWD works on it and there's no computer trying to decide what to do.

This will probably be the last Ford 4WD I'll own.
