4x4 light clicking on and off

Hello all, new to the forum. Had my 99 A4WD Expy for about 2 months now. So I was it playing a little bit in the snow a few days ago, when my 4x4 light starting clicking loudly on and off. It settled with on, but I had list my 4 wheel drive completely. Regardless of where the switch was. I put the switch in the A4WD position, shut the vehicle off and turned it back on. The front tires engaged exactly like they were supposed too at that point. I went home after that, but even off the snow and in the road the front tires were still engaged.

As of now it's working properly again in A4WD, but if I try to put it in 4x4 or 4 low, it ultimately does the same thing. Then I have to restart.

Does anyone know what the cause of thet could be? Or has had experience with this issue?

I have an update. Was pulling of the driveway yesterday, and my front tires engaged normally. But when I came to a slow stop I heard a sharp tapping noise coming from my front passenger wheel.
After some research, I discovered that it's probably the solenoid or the actuator.
The rig has a bit over 180k mi on it, so I figure it won't hurt to replace both.
My question now is would that effect my 4 low? I can see how it would, with a vacuum leak caused by a bad solenoid.

I will update again after replacing parts.

I would check the transfer case motor.
