I do enjoy these conversations. I didn't realize all the improvements made to the newer Ecoboost motors and 10 speed transmission. Doing some research I found this. Quite impressive. If you are going to build a Expy racer, the logical step would be to get the latest motor & transmission 1st. When it makes economic sense I'll be looking to trade in for a lightly used one as long as the reliability is there as well.

Power wise, the new 10speeds can handle up to E50 and that custom tune is impressive with power and torque gains. But like said before, if every time you turn the truck on you’re doing WOT all over town, probably not best to run like that due to inducing that much stress on stock motor. Do all the necessary mods and race it? Go for it!

I doubt it can do 0-60 in 4.3 seconds. This is nearly a 6,000lb truck. If it does accelerate that fast, you'll need a monster brake upgrade because the OEM brakes at these speeds will fade quicker than you think.

A 2018 F-150 3.5L banks ram air intake and 93 perf tune logged the 4.33. However, I don’t recall what gears it had, how much gas was in the tank, and if he boost launched or not. Now, that’s an F-150 which is much lighter than a fully loaded 2018 platinum expedition. Guys on 5 Star tuning FB page are easily running F150s in 4s and 5s and some have seen low 12s for 1/4 mile.

Stock 16 platinum fully loaded (3.73s) did 0-60 is 8.3. 2hi, no boost launch, pedal mashed from 0

My fully loaded 16 platinum (3.73s) lifted on 35s with 5 star 93 perf tune does 0-60 in 5-6 secs based off my time captures on video. I don’t have a 0-60 tracking device

Stock 18 platinum fully loaded (3.73s) does 0-60 in about 7secs (being tht it’s a tad lighter than the 3rd gens I believe). Not sure a custom tune could cut that down to 4.3 with just a tune

Different gears, fuel types, trim levels all effect 0-60 times

Until someone with a 0-60 app and device logs a 0-60 run stock and tuned and tells us weights and gears and mods, we will never know

Yes and Ford is very optimistic with their 0-60 times. They claim 6.5 secs stock on a 2017’ EL but TFL truck could not get it faster than 8.3 seconds in all their runs. Granted some elevation is involved.

Ford claims 7.5 secs for a standard length 07-14’ 5.4L and 8.9 secs for an EL but every test shows 8-8.5 secs and 9.0-9.3 secs for the EL. Basically they ain’t as fast as claimed to be.

Upgrade the parts I listed and you’d be fine running on stock internals, tons of F-150 guys have done exactly that. See you havent changed much, Ed:facepalm:
dude! when you're right you dont have to change!! you on the other hand...............

your words!!

"I would be worried running the E50 tune pumping out all those horses on stock internals, you risk breaking ALOT of stuff with all that power in stock engine. Now, upgrade manifold, turbos, intercooler, intake, exhaust, MAP sensor and I’d feel ok."

Question: what is the difference between a Expy 3.5 EcoB and a HO aka Raptor EcoB?

- Internals?
- "Externals"? (Turbo, manifold etc)?
- Mapping?

I remember this as being funny. A stock 2.7 ecoboost F-150 was faster than a stock 3.5 in 2015. Gearing and weight played a role for the 2.7. Still fast 0-60 for a stock truck, especially for a lower price one.

"The 2.7-liter model proved faster every time, although not by a large margin. It covered the 0 to 60 mph (96 km/h) sprint in 7.0 seconds, while the 3.5-liter model did it in 7.2 seconds."
