Give us more engine info: number of miles, how long since a tune up, any codes etc. What work if any has been done recently?

1997 ford expedition hard to keep running in cold damp weather

1997
5.4 liter fuel injection 4x4
120.000 miles
all tuned / new plugs, wires, PVC, air filter and so on.
I am an auto body & paint person with 38 years experience and have always done my own work on the running condition of all my vehicles and most always run and look fabulous but I also do my homework on things I do not know >> ie, this problem, so having stated this imagine all runs perfect accept for the exact problem I 1st posted about >>> 1997 ford expedition hard to keep running in cold damp weather >> we live in Seattle WA area just started the Wet damp cool season. last year same thing, when NOT damp and cold, no problems at all. Go figure. I remember same on old fords from 70's being like this...you tell me please.

My neighbor has a 2005 ford Crown vic with same exact problem she just asked me about today in fact and I told her I was looking for an answer and will get one soon. I will call a buddy at a ford dealer tomorrow if I have to and maybe I will re-post the answers here unless you beat me to it, and I hope you do because I hate to bother other mechanics at work about problems I should be bringing to them for repairs so they can make money. Also I see no problems for us sharing in these forums. We are mostly mechanics here anyway at least to some level, right...

so there you have my reply I hope I helped you to help me lol

Thanks much

Have you tried cleaning the IAC and throttle body? That would be a common part between the two vehicles.

97 ford exp, cold running problems

Well thank you COPPER.

Yes Sir I will have a look see tomorrow
I also will go ahead and change that Filter.
I will post back on what happened.
If anyone else has thoughts please post them.

Today was not exactly a warm day but dry no rain, it started fine and went right into cold choke mode with no problem. It only happens when cold and wet. Seems the dampness really hurts it. If dry its ok and runs great.

Hey its a Ford and temperamental. I still love my Ford.... :)

97 ford cold running...

Copper,
I just did a search on YouTube on my make model and the IAC valve.
I must say I am pretty sure within the IAC and throttle body will be where I find my amswer, again I will infact post back after I do a complete clean and inspection of said.

Thank you again for pointing me in a location that brought back sevral hits on YouTube where as before I only had a discription and I got no hits....I would bet money almost that its within these parts.

I will post back soon.

Thank you again Sir Copper.
