Hello everyone,
I have a 97 XLT with the 5.4L with 183,000 miles. I installed all new coils (Accel) and plugs about 30-35K miles ago. Yesterday I drove the truck all over, about 100 miles, and everything was fine. Today I tried to start it and it started, revved high, some where around 4K RPMs then dropped to about 100 -200 RPMs and then died. It tried to start it a number of times with the same result. Looking for some suggestions on where to start. Fuel Pump (original I think)? Idle Air control valve? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Check pcm for trouble codes and report back with alpha numeric code.

It would be much easier to go from there....

IAC. I can almost guarantee it. It's about $50 and not even 10 minutes. I've had 2 vehicles where the Idle Air Control valve has failed, and when it happened on my wife's 98 Expy it did exactly as you described.

No trouble codes at all. No check engine light.
Thanks rex450se, I will try that first thing tomorrow.
