Hey guys, just registered. Im having an issue with a 98 expedition i just bought from auction. The truck is a 5.4 4x4 eddie bauer.

After getting the truck ive done all the basic stuff on an unknown high mileage auction truck. Plugs coils all new vac and heater lines etc. But im having issues with the truck dieing. After 5 miles the truck loses all power and dies. It has to sit for 2 hours or so and it will run another 5 miles and die again. Ive installed a new 255 pump and verified i have fuel pressure at the rail when the truck dies. New filters as well.

The truck has the typical gem problem and i have a new ford one on order. However nothin in the gem module to my knowledge controls anything drivetrain wise. When the truck dies i lose all spark. Ive installed a new crank sensor and reflashed the pcm as well as changed it. I have no dtc codes either. Ive checked all wiring and did not see any obvious damages. I have voltage at the fuel pump when it dies as well. Ive heard about issues with the dash fuse box...but i do not see any hot spots or water damages. Im at my wits end. Any ideas? Ive tried searches without any resolution.

Also forgot to mention tps voltages are good. Ive also swapped to try to eliminate that asa possible what if.

There is also a wierd clicking in the bottom center of the dash near the console.

You need three things for an engine to run - air, spark and fuel.

If the fuel pressure is within spec when it dies then move on to spark. If you have access to a scanner, see if it loses connection with the pcm when the truck shuts off. If so you have an electrical problem on that side.
You might also want to monitor the crank position sensor during that test.

Clicking sound at center bottom of dash may be the blend door actuator.

Try having the catylitic converter checked. It may plug up when hot but flow when cold?
