99 AWD 4x4

Recently got the above vehicle.The 4wd hi/lo switch doesnt seem to work.The light comes on when turning on car..but not when i try to engage.Worked for the previous owner who removed a trailer brake attachment..now the ABS and brake light are on..is there a connection? Also where is the transfer case shift motor available and price if needed..Checked the fuses already..Thanks

sounds like he may have disconnected something when removing the trailer brake attachment. not sure. as for getting a new motor, you can find them just about anywhere online but if i recall they are a couple hundred bucks. your best bet would be to check out a junkyard if it comes to that. when you turn it on and the light comes on, is it actually engaged or is the light just on?

The light doesnt come on or the 4wd engage at all..The hi/lo light does come on when initially turning key tho

So can anyone tell me how to test the shift control on the transfer case for power and operation?Thanks

you said you checked all the fuses?...are you sure all fuses in engine compartment are present?....look for fuse 108 and 104

one way you can test if it is engaged is put the switch in 4h or 4l and try and do a sharp, slow turn on pavement. best to start from stopped position. if the truck feels like it is kinda bouncing or jumping in the front end, it is engaged.
