I have a high mileage truck, approx 175 000 miles, 1999 EB, 5.4 litre, 4x4. I notice that my engine is loud at first start for about 15 min (doesn't matter if it's cold or warm environment/ live in Canada). It sounds like a deisel, and I've been told it's normal and I know that's not normal. It does use about 1.5 litres of oil in between oil changes. I use synthetic oil since buying the truck. The truck does not blow blue smoke and I do not find leaks on ground It quiets down after getting on the road. Recently, a buddy of mine started his truck with the same motor ('01) and his was much quieter than mine. His is the same mileage as mine. Anyways, I've looked into swapping out the engine which turns out is going to be hard to do since these motors have to be exactly the same year (as told to me by dealer). My next thought is maybe just finding the problem and fixing it. Does anybody have any ideas or similar problems as mine? I hate taking truck to mechanics because they want you to tell them what's wrong as opposed to diagnosing the problem.
