The control switch for the A/C, heater fan has partially stopped. The #2 position doesn't work but #3 &4 positions work. How do i fix this?

Always post the year and model of your vehicle if it's not in your signature line.
It's most likely the speed control ballast there in the side of the HVAC box behind the glovebox. If you have EATC the part is Motorcraft YH1829 .

EATC is electronic automatic temperature control, found on the Eddie Bauer and Limited models. I believe you would just have manual temperature control "knobs" in the XLT right ? In that case your's takes a slightly different ballast resistor, but it's still stuck in the side of the box behind the glovebox.

Check the plug and wire harness for melted parts. Famous for needing the wire harness as well.
So if the plug will not come out it has melted together.
