Advancetrac - ABS -4X4 lights blinking

Regarding my 2006 Expedition...

I hit the trifecta last night driving home when all of a sudden the ABS light came on, the Advancetrac warning notification appeared ("Check Advancetrac") and the 4x4H intermittently blinks.

My brakes feel good, but I suspect they may be ready for replacement (just heard a slight noise yesterday.)

Aside from this car being a money pit, I love it when it runs.

Anyone have any thoughts?

Take it to advanced auto and have the codes read then post those codes on the forum

No codes actually, but the Autozone reader detected a left driver's side speed sensor malfunction. Tough part to install I think.
I'm hoping it's just dirt.

Ok to ad some confusion to this being the left side is the drivers side is it the frort or rear sensor or both.

Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS)

The 4-wheel, 4-channel anti-lock brake system (ABS) consists of the following components:

ABS module
Front wheel speed sensor
Front wheel speed sensor ring (integral to the front wheel bearing)
Hydraulic control unit (HCU)
Rear wheel speed sensor
Rear wheel speed sensor ring (integral to the rear halfshaft)
Yellow ABS warning indicator
The front wheel speed sensor rings are integral to the front hub and bearing assemblies.

The rear wheel speed sensor rings are integral to the rear halfshaft.

Supposedly the front one. The ABS light is on, the 4x4H blinks intermittently.

(I had a '72 Comet I could fix with a flat head screwdriver and a pair of pliers 35 years ago. WTF! At least the kids have aDVD player to watch when driving.)

if its the sensor shouldn't be that hard to replace but the tone (sensor) ring is part of the wheel hub

I appreciate your insight. You seem well-versed in this vehicle. Thank you for giving my your opinion.

I changed to 2 wheel drive in the high setting (2H), and the 4x4H is no longer blinking, but still getting an alarm for the AdvanceTrac and the ABS light is on.

I suppose I will succumb to taking it to the dealer which will make me hate myself.

I would replace the sensor and then have the codes reset. I would almost be that a ABS code came up but depending ot the reader that was used it may not have detected ABS codes I say this as I have two readers and one will and one won't read ABS codes.

I also have an 05 escape that is doing much the same but on the escape the problem is the tone rings and not the sensor The excape uses different components than the expedition Again the sensor isnt that hard to replace on the expedition the wheel hub (tone ring) is the hard part You may want to try that first before going to the dealer. Check on youtube for any videos or how to replace

It turns out I had to replace the front hub and bearing. A safety issue I suppose.

You were definitely on the right track - thank you again for your input.

I feel somewhat loyal to Ford because they didn't take bailout money. But sometimes, I'd settle for a rougher ride & a little bit of skidding so that all these extra parts don't factor into malfunctions.
