New owner here. Just picked up my 04 Expedition last weekend, and I'm loving it!
This vehicle is replacing an 05 Explorer XLS which has an aftermarket DVD/NAV system installed in it. I will be swapping the system over this week, but I had a few questions I couldn't get answered through searching:
Anyone have experience with any of these questions?
This vehicle is replacing an 05 Explorer XLS which has an aftermarket DVD/NAV system installed in it. I will be swapping the system over this week, but I had a few questions I couldn't get answered through searching:
- Will the double din mounting hardware carry over? I suspect it will. Two bottom screws and the rear "tongue" seems to be a pretty common setup for Fords of that era.
- Are the wiring harnesses the same? The Explorer has the base sound system, but my Expedition is an Eddie Bauer and has the Audiophile sound system (it does have the powered sub). I'd like to keep the sub working if it's not too much of a headache. What's involved in that? I'm guessing I need to adapt the aftermarket unit's sub line out to something the factory amp can use. I don't have rear DVD, and nor am I concerned with rear-seat audio controls.
- Is it easy to get the steering wheel controls working? The unit (Eclipse AVN-726E) has a built in steering wheel control interface that uses two wires and learns the inputs through a configuration process, although I've read it doesn't work on every vehicle. I'm concerned that since the SWC's also control the HVAC that I might encounter issues.
