Im having the first problem with the new ride. This morning I noticed my forced air will only blow from the main vents and it will not switch between vent, floor, and defroster no matter where I put the switch. Would this be caused by a vacuum leak or does it sound like a switch problem? It switches from hot, cold no problem just won't switch where it blows from. This is very annoying with the cold rainy weather and I can't get the defroster on the windshield. This is on an 07 Expedition XLT so it's the regular controls nothing fancy.

I had/have the same issue with my '07 XLT. Question - when you start the engine do you hear a grinding noise coming from the driver's side of the dash? I do and have replaced the part in the past that fixed the issue for a year or so but it's back. I need to replace it again I guess...very easy to do. The diverter/directional door is not moving because the gears on the actuator may be stripped causing the grinding noise.

When did Ford do away with the vacuum diverter? I "thought" 3rd gen were all electronic like the blend door.

There was no grinding noise on mine, I never even took anything apart I got in the next day and it's been working fine since then so I'm just going to keep my eye on it. And yes the mode door and blend door it turns out are electric not vacuum controlled on all the 07s and up after reading into it. I've played with it the last few days and can't get it to repeat what it did.

Maybe the computer just lost its reference point and when you shut it of and restarted it later it re-synced.
