Well he has to have something in there, otherwise it would just be sitting bottomed out all the time. Its possible he made it so that the airbags are constantly full but he has to have something in there to support the truck. The truck will ride like hell if you don't put coils in the air ride's place.

Nope no coil or air just regular shocks. It would save alot of money for people if this guy found that we dont have to buy expensive conversion kits.

......... in case he is an idiot.......

This is funny. But - what little I know of suspensions is this. You have to have something to support the body at rest. Generally it's springs. Be they leaf or coil with some as air like yours currently is. Then you have something to handle the bumps in the road and provide stability. That's where the shocks come in.

Now - back to is your neighbor an idiot? Well, there are shocks called "air shocks" that can work without springs. They try to do both jobs. Are they right for what you want to do? Read the following article to find out more about them:

Air Shock Technical - 4Wheel & Off-Road Magazine

You must be talking about the front suspension most likely torsion round bars, lead from the lower A frame to a bracket under the truck
