I seem to be getting an intermittent "CHECK SUSPENSION" light. Ride height has not changed, though, the air compressor seems a bit noisy. Not exactly sure if that is normal or what it is supposed to sound like. Does anyone know how to do a self diagnostic before I take it to the dealer. Any advice is appreciated.

Thanks

Joe

I had the light go on for a couple of trips and now the suspension just stopped working completely. Its squatting all the way down in the back and wont come up. Anyone have a clue? Is there anything I can do before going to the dealer?

is there a manual override on this that would allow youto balance out the vehicle?

Check the fuse(s) ....

You can check the fuse(s) for the compressor and system. If the light was coming on due to a leak in the system and the compressor ran constantly trying to maintain air in the system it could have burned out the compressor or if you're lucky just blown the fuse. So check all the fuses and if you get the compressor running again look for the leak right away (just turn the ignition to ON, don't start the engine, so you can hear a leak). But if the light came on the computer should have some DTC codes stored for the failure and any competent auto shop should be able to retrieve the codes for you (even PepBoys or AutoZone can read the codes). Replacement parts are available online, compressor is $150, air struts are $110, the air line you can get at NAPA. Good luck ........ Mike :D

rear suspension

Have you had the vehicle jacked up lately? I recently had my rear suspension drop on my 98 as well. The mechanic said, after two days of troubleshooting and several phone calls to local ford house and Ford tech line, finally realized that is the height sensor on rear axel that went bad. It costs about $90 plus their time but my extended warranty covered it. Make sure to turn off the rear suspension, located under dash on passenger side, before jacking up the vehicle. And don't raise it real high.

I changed the oil right after getting the truck without turning off the air suspension. THat may have triggered the problem. However, after the weather warmed up, we havent had any problems. I am thinking that the hoses must have shrunk, or I have a bad connection somewhere. Nonetheless, no problems since. I am probably going to inspect all the lines this summer and replace some if necessary. After careful inspection of the manual, I now turn the suspension off when jacking the vehicle up.

Thanks
