alternator died

well it was about -15 overnight..the other half took the expy to a appointment and on the way back it when it was -10 she died. so i get a call at work "i'm stranded" lol so i left and got there..turns out the battery light had been on for a bit...still had the heater on full blast and radio..ect i was like omg lol. so i ended up sitting there with the jumper cables on for about 15mins and was able to limp it home. so this weekends project! replacing the alternator and serpentine belt.

i guess 80,5xx miles was just too much for the stock unit...personally i think the cold helped alittle but oh well.

see if you can get one with a lifetime warranty. then no more worry about it. if it goes out o well.

yeah i've done then on my excursion...exactly the same. easiest alternator replacement i've ever done! lol

yeah my buddy is a manager at napa..i'm getting it for like $200 UNDER walk in price..i'm getting employee price

Just did mine too with Panda's help. NAPA was the craziest most expensive POS I have ever heard of. Got mine from Case/HiWay Service for $130. NAPA wanted $299.

list price on the damn thing was almost $300! luckily for company discounts NAPA didnt work out as they could not locate one in time today so i just went to carquest where we get a great company discount.




got the cold ******************** started and pulled in the garage to warm up to about 75 degrees.

took her out last night shes working great! seems to put out better then the old worn out stocker.

I had my first one rebuilt in Mar 2005 @ 104903 miles, and changed it out in Dec 2006 @ 117038-not a lot of miles per se, but found out that they put an undersized module in the rebuilt one, thus the charging gauge would fluctuate everytime there was a heavy load on the system. The new one was from the local Autozone. Mine disassembly/install probably took a bit longer as having to remove plumbing from S/C & Aftercooler, but as mentioned above, relatively quick change nevertheless.

You need to check voltage at battery while the vehicle is running. If you have 14 + volts the alternator is ok. 13 or less and alternator is not charging properly. Somewhere in between is questionable depending on your electrical load at the time.
