I have a 98 EB 4x4. My radio antenna hits my garage door and it also hits the overhead in the parking garage under the building I work in. Has anyone changed their antenna to a shorter version and if so what was the place you got the replacement part?

i'd just get a spare from ebay, and try cutting it shorter. if it doesn't work, then spend on a new one----you should find an el-cheapo on ebay to play with.

The ball on the end of an antenna has something to do with its ability to get quality reception. Simply cutting it shorter is not as simple as it sounds. You would have to figure a way to re-attach that ball to the end of it and I don't know how I'd be able to do that. I know a lot of the cobra guys (99-2004) shorten their antenna's but I can't find anyone that had instructions on how to do it.

I have a 1999 Expy. I wouldn't change the antenna. It serves as a nice early warning system if you're trying to crawl into a parking garage that might just be low enough to eat the roof rack.

I have the solution...an eletronic black whip antenna, a unit with a pre~loaded coil [12 v - ground, stan'd.] The whip is about 14inches long, big around as a typical index finger, bendy, easy to install. Bought mine at Lee Stone Automotive accesories on Dempster Ave, in Morton Grove, Illinois. But everybody sells them. Worked fine on my '77 Chevy Step-Side, 84 Rabbit GTI, 92 BMW 320I S, 65 Mini Cooper 1275, 92 Merc station wagon, my wife's 240, 260, 280, and 300 Z Datsun cars. I guess we like 'em.
