The odometer on my 97 exp quit working at 223K a few years ago. I was replacing a cracked dash, so I decided it would be a good time to fix it while I had the dash apart.
Pulled the cluster and took it apart and sure enough, the odometer gear was in bits an pieces. I replaced the odometer gear and put everything back together.
Viola - It worked! - for about 15 miles.
I pulled the cluster again and rechecked everything. Turned the dials manually and they turned freely. The new gear appeared to mesh well with the gears on the dial. Put it back in but still nothing.
Anyone run into this issue before? Any idea what I should check next?
