Hey y'all, new to the forum with my new-to-me 2017 Platinum Expedition that I got last week!

When I connect my wife's iPhone 7, Apple CarPlay comes up just fine. However, when I connect my iPhone 10, I get nothing... Anyone seen an issue like this? I am connecting with the cable connected to the USB port.

I have not had any problems connecting my iPhone X. So it's not the phone. Did you try the usual re-boots and resets? Power down everything, power it back up and attempt it again?

I'm not sure how Apple CarPlay works, but on Android Auto I had to accept the connection on the phone when first connecting. Is there something similar for iPhones?

I did power-cycle the phone and I've started the truck a whole bunch. :)

With my wife's phone, it asked me to accept the connection and we did. With my phone, I never saw it ask and I can't figure out how to make it ask again (if I missed it).

I haven't done a "master reset" on sync yet... Maybe I need to do that... I just updated Sync to v3 last night and was hoping that would "reset" things, but no dice. It recognized my phone over USB and everything works with it the SYNC way, just no Apple CarPlay. :(

I'll try the master reset tonight.

Somethings to try before doing a master reset.

Make sure you are connecting to the correct usb jacks. There is a pair of them in the center console that are to be used with carplay and android auto.
Make sure you update your phone to the latest version of ios.
I think, somewhere buried in Sync's carplay options, is a way to make it forget your phone.

I am on the latest version of iOS and I'm using a cable connected to one of the two USB ports in the center console. I have tried both with the same result.

Funny thing is, under Settings, there is no Apple CarePlay item. There isn't even the Android Auto item. They used to be there, but don't know why they're gone...

Hmmm.... Disregarding carplay for now, are you able to connect to Sync via a normal bluetooth RF link? And is that fully functional? i.e. play music, receive txt message notifications, make/receive calls?

IIRC, there are 3 screens in the settings menu. Swipe left and right to move between them.

Yes, it does work over "regular bluetooth"...

Yeah, I have 3 pages of settings as you describe. Well, I have 3 pages when CarPlay and Android Auto show up. :) Right now, I only have two.

On the iPhone, in Settings->General->Restrictions, the CarPlay option was disabled. Turned that back on and VIOLA!

No clue how it got turned off, but it’s on and working now!!

Sorry to jump on this chain that got resolved, but clarifying question: Is Sync3 supposed to give me text message alerts over Bluetooth connection on iPhone? My call functions work fine but I get no text message notification sounds. When I first paired the phone, I got a warning message about having to enable something for texting to work, but wouldn't find a setting anywhere and Ford sales guy told me that all get the message and to just ignore it. Thanks!

I have an Android phone and I get text alerts when connected over Bluetooth (no Android Auto). I window pops up giving me an option to hear the text.

For it to work though, I had to adjust the Bluetooth settings for the Ford connection on the phone. I'm going to assume something similar may have to be done for an iPhone.

Thanks jkaya. I checked on iPhone and looks like two options in Bluetooth for the Ford connection - Show Notifications and Sync Contacts. My Show Notifications was not turned on - it is now. I will try it and see what happens. Won't be today - rode the bike while the weather is nice ;)

For future reference and anybody else this may help: confirmed today - text through Bluetooth on iPhone wasn't working for me because I needed to go into Bluetooth settings on my iPhone, for my Ford's connection, and turn on the radio button for Show Notifications. Works great now - Sync screen can display my text and read it to me. Bummer Sync can't combine a few Siri commands and offer to let me reply by dictation, but oh well. Thanks again jkaya for the tip.
