Auto Temp issue...'06 Limited

My wife's '06 Limited has the auto temp control (seats etc). A few days ago, she told me it has a small hiccup. The blower fan only runs on high. Regardless of the setting on the control, the fan stays running on high. It doesn't matter if she uses the controls on the panel, or the steering wheel, it blows on high. All other controls work...temp changes, she can move the air from vents to floor to defrost, and when she presses the fan speed buttons, the panel shows that the speed should have changed. But it does not. When she pushes the "off" button, the fan will not turn off. The panel shows "off", but the fan continues to run on high. When she turns the vehicle off, it will turn off. When she turns the vehicle back on, the fan will remain off, until she turns on the A/C...then the fan goes to high speed...and remains there until the ignition switch is turned off, regardless of what she pushes.

Any suggestions on how to fix this? Or am I looking at a new (used) controller?

Ok...but I am a bit confused. I do understand how a resistor works with a manual system, but where does the resistor fit in with the ATC system? Does the control panel not control the fan speed electronically, inside the processor of the panel itself, rather than with a resistor block? Maybe if I had a wiring diagram to go by, it might make more sense. The primary problem here is the fact that I am in Iraq...8,000 miles from the vehicle...and trying to get this figured out for her. She can do the work on replacing parts if I walk her through it, but I am very unfamiliar with this trucks systems, and don't even know where to tell her to begin...other than trying a "hard reset" by removing a battery terminal for a few minutes.

Also, if it were the resistor, would it not turn off when the "off" button is pushed? Hers will not. You have to actually turn off the ignition to kill the fan. Upon restart of the engine, the fan will remain off, until turned on...but then it is on high only, and again will not turn off until the ignition is off.

i have not had to replace this part on my expy. i have the same problem with my work truck except for the staying on all the time part. it is an o8 ford f250 and was told that was the issue. i have had this problem on other vehicles and this was the fix. maybe the fact that the fan wont change speeds is screwing with the computer board for the a/c and therefore wont let it shut off. that part i'm not sure. i will see if i can talk to my friend at the ford dealer and get back to you.

I'll work on trying to post the wiring diagram and look at it tomorrow to see what I can see - I have the same set up in my 06 king ranch - so I'll do a little homework for ya, I am sure I am not close to your wife or I'd say Id take a look but due to the fact your in Iraq you probably not from around my home town... anyway - I'll see what I can do tomorrow

Found the issue! I have a friend here that has access to the Ford database (we have 150+ Expeditions in the DoS fleet here), and printed the diagnostic sections for me. After I talked my wife through all the steps, and we diagnosed the problem (the fan speed control module) i did a search to find its location, and found this IDENTICAL problem on another forum.

Awesome glad you found the fix - hopefully the part doesn't cost you $105 - keep us posted - I never got the chance to post the wiring diagram yesterday as I ended up taking a unexpected drive to the US to pick up a cargo trailer that my father-in-law tried to import the other night - but didn't have the correct paperwork for.... so that was 9 hours of my life and 2 tanks of gas in the Expy

Nah...the part from my local Ford dealer is only $72.50. I am waiting to hear back from Tosca on availability through them. I couldnt find it on their site. I sent my wife the location of the part, and some pics I found online of it installed. Oh how I wish I was home to see her all stretched out upside down under that dash...........................


But I guess if I was at home, I would be installing it, and not her. Oh well.
