Had/have it set to NOT autolock and DO autounlock.

Feature worked as expected except when I used the remote start if would lock the doors anyways.

Since changing the battery no matter what I set the options to it locks the doors and does not unlock them. Very annoying when I go to open the tailgate and it is locked.

I don't want my truck to decide when to lock and unlock the doors. I can decide that on my own.
How can I stop it from locking the doors?

I “think” if you are auto starting the vehicle, it is always going to lock. I don’t believe that particular feature can be changed. It is a safety/theft deterrent feature.
Just my thought.

Correct.
It locks the doors with the remote start.
Before I changed the battery if would also lock the doors when put in gear.
If I didn't use the remote start it would not lock the doors. (What I want)

It now locks the doors no matter what when put into gear and does not unlock them when driver door is opened.

I have the auto lock feature on my 02 Eddie Bauer, my locks the doors when I put it in gear,
but I have to manually unlock the doors which I'm okay with

yes, also when you put it in gear it will lock the doors. (Safety feature).
I don’t think that can be changed either, I’m not sure about that one.
I actually don’t mind the auto lock features. For me it’s a good thing as I am raising two young grandchildren. I put it in gear and about 10 mph the doors lock. Keeps me from having to do it.
