Now have close to 100k miles on my 2007 limited and maintenance is adding up. I'm not opposed to spending money to properly maintain it, but the costs have been shocking and my mechanic is equally surprised by the poor level of engineering for my year model, specifically with the larger engine I possess.

During warranty period, A/C would stop blowing cold air. Ford dealership couldn't find the problem although it's a known issue. I installed bigger compressor that did not help. There is a faulty switch under the dash, but the labor to repair is high so I've left it alone. Explain that to three young kids driving in TX. Ford should do the right thing and fix my vehicle now as the issue was reported while under warranty.

Just had major tune up. Two piece spark plugs extremely difficult to get out and special tool needed. It took a coupke days for my mechanic to complete the job and I'm lucky that parts didn't end up in my engine. Very costly. I put in one piece plugs.

Just replaced all the hoses, which is expected for the age of the vehicle. Problem is, they were designed so poorly that Ford only offers and new hose system (similar to BMW) where they clamp on with special fittings. My cost was over $1k for the job bc of all the custome hoses, and need to replace thurmostat.

Apparently my engine is at risk, again an enginnering screw up. Unsure how to explain, but the engine may lose compression and the fix is just as expensive and a complete engine replacement. Apparently, the fact that I change the oil religiously helps, but it's not a good feeling.

Overall, Ford continues to avoid any responsibility so will be looking for a different make next time.

What is the problem here that you speak of? I to have this same engine and have spent quite some time and money on it. However, I love the vehicle! Thanks for your input.

Got 120k on my 07. Other than a couple of interior rattles that are mostly my fault from taking things apart so many times... The vehicle has been mechanically wonderful. My dad has 140k on his 07 F150 with the same motor. Only thing he's had to do other than standard maintenance is the AC compressor.

What I did to mine after 100K miles:

Drivers Exhaust Manifold gasket
Fix broken hub and actuator for 4WD

Replaced lower ball joints, upper control arms
Replace front pinion seal
Wheel alignment

Change Trans Fluid/ replaced with Amsoil-elective
Replaced O2 sensors- elective
Update SCT tune for towing-elective

What was also done to this point:

Replaced both front window actuators
Replace passenger manifold gasket (both needed new manifolds)

What needs to be done:

Fix rear wiper(stuck)
Repaint rear hatch because of bubbling due to poor engineering

Believe it or not, I still love the truck and have a lofty goal of hitting 300K miles, so it's staying with me for a while.

Since you have to redo the rear wiper you might as well switch to a 2012 arm. Looks better and its cheap

Already done;) I think i just have to take it apart and spray it with some WD. It must have froze up from not using it.

2007 Expedition was garbage

Owned an 07 Expedition, bought new. Went through 3 engines and rather than putting in a fourth, I had to scrap it. Ford took no responsibility for the problems. Will never buy another ford ever again. Steer clear of this vehicle. Changed the oil religiously, and took care of the vehicle properly. Something is wrong w the 5.4 design.

You sound like my wife. Nagging and yapa yapa yaap. But believe me it's not the car, it's never the car... It's always the driver.

I don't get this. Many people on this site (and others) have gotten well over 100k on their 5.4L. I was concerned since I have an early build 2007 EL but its been rock solid for 173k now (even have the original coil packs).

Two of the plugs broke when they were changed at 100k but the dealer got them out and all's well since then.
