no Ford updates available

Native screen has developed 10-20 second lag time when running AA works perfectly
Been told this is sign of the USB ports going bad, and the usb directly powers and controls the data lines to the APIM>
The hub is not just a passthrough for your phone or flash drive. It is the only power and data bridge between:

  • The two front USB ports
  • The internal Bluetooth/Wi-Fi antennas
  • The APIM’s own USB controller

Anybody ever heard of this and could replacing the usb hub resolve the screen lag?

    Thanks in advance

Looking at the schematics it’s obvious the power source comes from the BCM to the APIM, then the USB port.

I actually had a 2016 Expedition that did not support Apple CarPlay. After doing some research I swapped out the OEM USB for one listed as fitting a 2018 Ford Focus if I remember correctly. Everything still worked normally with the OEM USB plug disconnected. So, telling you the APIM is powered by the USB port makes no sense.

The crazy part was once I plugged in the new part all the CarPlay features just popped up. Wild.

Attached a few schematics for Ford via Chiton for your viewing pleasure. Also, it was my assumption you have Sony with SYNC and touchscreen options.

Oh… try a different phone. Both Android and Apple (I’d try Apple for the heck of it) to verify it’s the system, and not the phone. If it still lags try a new USB port… they’re not that expensive.
