I want to get more power out of the 3.5l but was wondering what gives the most bang for the buck. In the past I’ve always heard with these newer turbo’d vehicles you can tune it to really jump up the power.
Anyone have experience?

Buckle up, you’re about to be inundated with tuner suggestions and, if you’re lucky, a couple arguments over which is superior... small displacement forced induction or naturally aspirated larger displacement. Enjoy.

I have a 5 star tuner and some other modifications. Very pleased outstanding performance. I don't drive it hard but at times it's just a laugh riot.thats your easiest improvement

I’m guessing a tuner would be a nono for the warranty. Would some sort of cold air intake be ok or bad as well?

A CAI won’t void the warranty like a tune most likely would but won’t get nearly as much power... probably get a better sound from under the hood tho

A tune will put you below 5 seconds 0-60 time. This video shows what the 3.5 EB can do.

5-star tuning (like all ECU reflashes) will void your powertrain and drivetrain warranty. As long as you're comfortable with that.

If you want an extra 50-80hp, you can buy a plug-and-play module that boost the turbo a little more. This is the one I'm using:

JMS BX600035V5 F-150 Performance Booster

If you ever have a warranty issue, just remove it and take it to the dealer. It's a much safer approach in my opinion.

As long as you remove it before bringing your vehicle to the dealer, then yes, it won’t void your warranty because there is no permanent modification done to any hardware or software. The module intercepts turbo boost signals from the ECU and the throttle pedal position and increases the turbo boost. The signals are intercepted and modified in the fly.
This is significantly different than flashing your ECU with third party programming. The moment your dealer connects their computer To your vehicle you’ll get flagged.

Should be the same as ant turbo engine. More boost- more fuel.....higher octane gas, mixing e-85 or alc injection add on.....
To the point of blowing head gaskets or so much power you crack or window the block or break the crankshaft.

Controlling detonation is most important part.

The combination of engines being built stronger (mostly due to direct injection) and turbos getting smaller for quick spooling they generally are the limiting factor and run out of puff before getting anywhere near those issues.

Maybe today in some.. I didn't go that far but the next steps in my list were bigger turbo(s) and bigger injectors (but that is inferred with more fuel when you max your duty cycle on oem)

I’d do the regular 87 to 93 octane tunes myself. You get a bang for your buck for a few hundred $$. I’d skip the 650 horsepower modifications if it is a daily driver. Seems too many problems with catastrophic engine failures on those guys running the hopped up trucks. That’s weekend car stuff, not daily driver stuff imo....unless you can suppress the urge to hit the gas all the time lol.

Actually 2 out of the three mods they did will drastically help the longevity of the motor given the added boost. The intercooler will help keep things cool on the intake side and the better flowing downpipes will allow the heat to escape quicker and allow for easier (quicker) spooling turbos. All of which I would suggest doing even if you don't tune... But the gains will be significantly better if you do tune.

I will probably do an intake and intercooler then wait for 3/4 of the warranty to expire before doing tune and exhaust.... Mostly to make sure they fixed the cam phaser bs... Definitely don't want to be stuck with that bill.

My only question would be why do you want or need more power? Forgive me for not understanding this but I just don't. I have owned SUVs since about 1999. Have had S10 Blazers and S15 Jimmy's, ramchargers, Durango's, Pathfinders, Isuzu Rodeo, Chevy Trailblazer, Expedition, Navigator, CJ5 Jeeps, and Grand Cherokees.
And not once did I have any desire to increase the power on any of these vehicles.
These newer vehicles have a god-awful amount of horsepower compared to what they did 15 or 20 years ago so I see even less reason.
Do your tow with it? Or do you want race the roads with it?
Do you get beside people in other cars and race them or try to out-muscle them which I have done all my life, but never, not once an SUV.
I will admit I have race people in my 70 CJ5 with 33 inch mud King tires and a 350 Chevy in it. It was damn fast for a Jeep. It did have Jaz racing seats with 5-point harnesses in it and was a powder-coated frame, fiberglass body, chromed-out engine show vehicle.

So if you tow something and need more power or want it just to feel better and have to give it last gas I can understand but I've never understood the desire of people to race around muscle people in a big 6000 pound SUV. I think they should go buy a performance car for that.
I do get into a people often and they're four door Chargers and Hondas and SUVs and such that want to have one car as a daily driver or a family truckster and wanted to also Dual Purpose as a race car performance. I don't believe in this. They can take their 0 to 60 2.6 second Jeep Tomahawk or Scalper or whatever they call it and stick it. Hey, scalper would be a good name for a fast vehicle though.
I'm one of those each vehicle has its purpose so have several. I have a pickup truck for when I want a truck. I hardly ever haul anything in an SUV. I just liked it. I always by 3rd row seating to get I've owned vehicles and never had anyone in the back seat. I'm just weird that way.
But I know, there are people that have diesel trucks that run sub-10 second quarter miles so there's something to interest everyone but I just don't understand why people with newer SUVs that already have lots of horsepower need or want more.
Please enlighten me. I will try not to be too judgmental. I probably won't succeed though.
