I just picked up a 2023 Platinum unit. It is used with 6000 miles on it. I'm on my way home with it and have stopped for the night. I was anxious to the the Bluecruise but so far I find it pretty useless. Every couple of hundred yards it's telling me to put my hands on the wheel even when they were. It tells me to take over or just shuts down. I understand version 1.2 is supposed to improve things. Has anyone received the update and if so, how do you get it? Is it over the air? I sure hope it is soon because that was one of the major features I bought the unit for.

It doesn't sense your hands on the bottom half of the steering wheel, but other than that it works fine for me.
When it goes 'hands free' it's great — I've become very spoiled being able to use that on the freeway.

That really sounds bad. I can't believe they increased the price to $800 years for that when SuperCruise is so much better (and is $250 a year). Wish the GM vehicle interiors were better designed though.

Thanks to the comments here I’ve figured out how to set it. Wow, what a game changer. Today I drove one section of about 60 miles with the cruise set at 83 and never touched the wheel or throttle other than to change lanes. It varied the speed between 42 and 83 depending on what was in front of me. I’m ready for the update.

it will slow down to a crawl if traffic becomes congested, and come to a stop and then resume in stop-and-go traffic, which makes driving in that kind of annoying traffic effortless.

Hands Free BlueCruise will only work 80mph and under, ONLY on major Interstates, major freeways, major state highways. There is an interactive map on this page to show which ones qualify:

When in BlueCruise, if the front camera can't see lane lines (shadows, paint fading etc), the lane becomes wider to merge/split, the radius of the highway is too tight, if your eyes are not on the road, or your eyes obscured from the 2 driver facing cameras, it will drop back to Lane Assisted cruise control. The Dash changes from all blue, to the regular dash with a big symbol on the left of a steering wheel with 2 hands on it. That's when you know you're not in hands free mode.

When you are in lane assist, it's is supposed to be assisting you (not for you), and will get angry and shut off if you don't have your hand(s) on the wheel. It needs some amount of pressure fighting against the steering, in order to sense that your hand is there. Like the weight of your hand on the side.

Personally I think the amount of pressure required to sense your hand is too great. I wind up fighting more and exerting against the steering wheel to give it the feedback it's looking for, then if i was just steering myself. I will either turn it off, or let it steer and jiggle the steering wheel every 20 seconds or so to keep it happy. Again this is only is Lane Assist, not handsfree Blue Cruise.

Thanks for that info. While I had the cruise set at 83 and I thought it controlled at that speed, that may have been while I still had my hands on the wheel. With the traffic, there were very few times it actually accelerated past 75. I can live with 80.

I had thought it was some kind of capacitive touch sensing (I was impressed that they could do that through leather...), but you're right. I did 8+ hours of driving today and when BlueCruise was in Lane Assist mode I mostly kept my left hand down at the bottom of the wheel at 6:00, and like you said when it would complain I would just give it a little nudge and it was happy.

Also discovered that BlueCruise disables Hands Free mode when you have a trailer hooked up — just stays in Lane Assist when active.

Has anyone received a timeline for 1.2 to the expedition? I use BC all the time but the updated is much needed.

I just picked up a '23 F150 and the BC hasn't been too impressive for me. The longest run I've had with "hands free" is about 6 miles... Not really worth it. Admittedly the PA turnpike and I95 with construction aren't the best test beds, but in the northeast there are NO good roads that don't have some kind of tar strip or offset screwing up the dashes white lines. In the one section that it was clear it seemed to get nervous negotiating a sweeping left turn and shut off mid corner.

Seems like a good idea that was pulled out of the oven before it was fully cooked.

Unfortunately it is going to take ford quite a few years to get bluecruise dialed in. Same with the whole big navigation screen controlling the vehicle. Ford's software support and upgrades should take a look at how tesla does it.

It seems to me a lot of Expedition owners think they have Blue Cruise when it is only the adaptive cruise with lane keep assist. Kind of scary that many think they have it when they don't.

Has anyone heard anything about the 1.2 or 1.3 update? What does the 24 come with? I am thinking of getting rid of my expedition bc of how bad blue cruise is. I absolutely regret not getting the tahoe w super cruise.

Do you not like anything about the truck or just the bc? If you want the update, why not wait for the my25s and get the updated bc then?

I drive 30k miles a year and purchased for BC and it is pretty damn bad. Aside from that the center console rattles constantly and the dealer can't seem to fix it. Not sure I could do another Ford at this point. The engine is absolutely amazing, massaging seats are decent but could live w out, and I actually like the infotainment screen. I was told by the dealer I purchased from I would get the update no later than 23 and it appears the 1.2 or 1.3 is a massive upgrade. I would not have purchased if I had known that wasn't coming. Do the 24s really still come w 1.1? Not sure how Ford can't update one if its premium vehicles w an OTA update if the architecture is shared. What am I missing?

The architecture was updated, but I guess not enough to handle the new bc. Remember, the expy platform is 9 yrs old, it's based on the 2015 f150 whi h came out in 2014, so it's tech the oldest platform the company has barring the econolines and fleet trucks. If those are the features you have, the denali ultimate has those things but your looking at a 10 - 15k premium. If ford does to the expy what they did with the 21 f150, itll be vastly improved for my25.

So have you confirmed it is not coming? Ive called Ford numerous times and I've been told different things but never that it isn't coming just that they don't know when. It would be awesome to get an official answer. 2nd best answer is no!

Honestly idk. I'm also on the navigator forum and ppl are pissed and rightfully so about the same thing, no updates and no communication. Ford hasn't truly confirmed updates for expy, but they did with the nav and nothing. I kind of just put two and two together tbh. I feel like ford already knew blc was spotty with this platform, but got it to work as a beta, but it became unusable in its newer iterations for the platform so they just gave up on it and focused on getting it right on the remodel. That or ford just doesn't give a shit and lied to hundreds of thousands of consumers and dealers to sell an overpriced, aging product.
