yesterday after a one hour highway trip in NM we smelled allot of gas when pulling into the garage. I took off gas cap and besides allot of pressure being released, gas squirted out of the filler tube! It squirted out about once every 2 seconds for about 10 seconds then stopped. Gas tank was between 1/2 and 3/4.

What the heck is going on?...

From another vehicle I had - make sure your exhaust pipe is not pushing against your fuel tank. I had a car where it came loose, but rested on the gas tank. If I drove all day, filled up, and drove again, than I would get a similar problem, where I would smell gas, pull over, pull off the gas cap, leave it for a few minutes, and drive again. It was just a hanger in the long run that needed to be replaced. Its a quick easy check on these guys, will take you less time than to read my ramblings.
