Question on removing the rotor on a 1999 Expedition. Do you need to remove the center nut (it's a large one at 1 3/8") to get the rotor off? Also, just to confirm that the bolts holding the caliper bracket do need to be removed as well. Please advise.

It's a 4x4. After further research (some from this board and some from talking with others) it appears that getting the rotor off is often a problem with the Expedition. I gave up and dropped it off at my mechanics this morning. He indicated that they often end up ruining the rotor just trying to get it off. Not sure why there's a problem - the front rotors came off without any problems on my '96 Ford F-150 (2WD). Oh well, at least I saved a little money with the brake pads.

Rotors tend to rust around the hub. When removing them the first time, some people will whack it with a hammer or better yet, a sledge hammer to pry the rotor off the hub.

When putting on a new rotor, it's best to put anti-seize compound at the contact points so that the next time, it's easier to remove.
