Brown wire mod question

Reading about the brown wire mod, and I'm guessing this has been covered but I didn't find any information.
Can you not use a switch and trim panel from the early version of Expy with the 2wd position? Is the wiring harness different?

Pretty sure you cannot. The front axle disconnects on earlier 1st gens, and the later 1st gens have a magnetic clutch pack instead? It's pretty easy to do the mod. The link to how I did it is in my signature

If you can change the switch Imma be pissed! lol But I'm pretty sure ya can't :-(

The selector switch is basically a switch that changes the resistance in the circuit. It isn't like a off/on type switch. The connector for the switch is the same for all years in the first gen expeditions But it goes thru the gem module and should be configered differently for the 97/98 yeasrs as compared to the years that don't have the 2wd drive position on the switch

Forgot the early years had an axle disconnect.
Figured if it was possible, someone would have done it all ready.
My Expy isn't a daily driver so I'll add the brown wire mod as a low priority to-do list item.
