Hi everyone, I'm wiring a remote start system in my '98 XLT (5.4L, if that matters) and after doing some Internet searching, I'm having a hard time locating where, in the cabin of the truck, to find the neutral safety wire. I understand that I can access the wire at the range mode selector that's attached to the transmission, but I'd prefer to tap into a wire that's already in one of the kick panels or something, if possible. Does anyone know where in the cabin I can find this wire? And what is the color of the wire? Thanks!

I'm assuming that the 98 is similar to my 99, all of the engine/trans functions are controlled by the pcm which is located by the battery. The only other set of wires to tap into would be the ignition switch harness.

Search the web and you'll find links to the wiring diagrams for your year.

Does yours have PATS, if so how do you bypass it with a remote start?

Thanks for the response. I have previously found at least 6 wiring diagrams for the vehicle, and they all list everything I need except for the neutral safety wire. Are you sure this wire runs anywhere near the ignition?

Yeah I have the PATS, and have a PATS keyless bypass kit. I've done pretty much all of the rest of the wiring for the alarm/remote start, just have to wire up the PATS bypass tomorrow or as soon as it isn't freezing cold outside.

Check the starting system wiring diagrams concerning the starter relay. You may be looking for a red/lt blue wire that originates at the ignition switch, passes through central junction box then to the range selector and finally to the starter relay.

Thanks stamp! I've put that remote start part of the alarm project on hold for now because I'm having problems with my "PKFM" XPressKit by[ass module. I'll update this if the red/lt blue wire ends up being the right one. Thanks again.
