I have a 2019 Limited. Nearing 100k miles. Oil change every 5k. Question is what is the build date when they updated the cam phasers from the old style. I have no problem with mine to date.

Your maintenance schedule is a key to the mileage you state. Keep on doing what your doing. I understand at this point in time updated phasers are sold as a complete kit. Less the guides and adjusters. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

My 2019 Expedition was built 9/2019. The phasers were replaced earlier this year at 60K miles. Like you, I did oil changes every 5k miles.

We bought our 2018 Max platinum second hand with 25k miles and it was already showing signs. The dealer did a stepwise repair for us. First we did a reprogram and when that didn't do it, we took it back again later for the "fix." This was maybe 3yrs ago. I still hear it and have come to accept it with 80k on the odo.

Is this a new kit?

I think the 2021 range they went to the updated phaser design? Then mid-2023 for the updated 10 speed design. Watch some Ford Tech Makuloco videos on it - he says the switchover dates in them and he's the MAN!

The 18 and 19 will definitely have phaser issues. It's not the build data per se for you. It's the 3rd gen ecoboost that you have. The third gen eco also came with the 10sp transmission that will also have an issue. Phasers will be around 5K and the 10sp could be 5-7K. I have a 16 expedition with 6sp, all good at 99K and I don't expect problems. I have an 18 raptor with 10sp. It needed phasers and trans. Hope that helps.

I believe I've read that engines built from the fourth quarter of 2019 benefit from the updated cam phasers. These are actually 3rd Gen phasers; the 18-21 Expeditions use 2nd Gen engines. I personally know several people in addition to myself who either have owned or currently own 2nd Gen 3.5's built in 2020, none have had phaser issues.
