I have a 1998 expedition 4X4 Eddie Bauer and the transmission went out. I have a line on a rebuilt E4OD tranny from a 1997 Expy 4X4 and wanted to know i f i can install the e4od without any mods. I know that the trans should just bolt up but does the 4R100 have any additional sensors or will the PCM need to be re-programmed ?
To be more precise, I was driving about 55 mph on the freeway and all of a sudden the transmission popped out of gear ( at least that's the way it seemed) and I could not get it to engage or move again. The car was left overnight (no not on the freeway) and when i came back to retrieve it, the transmission would not enage in "D", it would go into gear if you put the shifter in 1, then shift into 2nd by putting shifter into 2, and finally shift to third by putting shifter into D, however i could only do about 30 mph as the engine was taching at about 3500-3800 RPM.
Any ideas. I think I'm on the right track with the replace tranny thing
