Can you identify this part?

a friend of mine asked me to post this due to his lack of internet connectivity. he has a 2001 expedition and was recently changing his transmission fluid when this part fell out.... he knows a bit about cars but cant figure out what this is. any help would be great. thanks!

It is the plug that is used to plug the tranny when it is being built. Once it is built and the fluid goes in, the plug is just pushed in the pan and left there. That usualy means tyhe tranny fluid has never been changed.
