Can you remote start with an app?

I have a 2017 Expedition EL Limited with remote start (using the key fob). I was wondering if it is possible to remote start the car through a phone app.

I looked at the FordPass app. I got it all setup but didn't have the option to start the car through the app (or unlock the doors). It looks like the vehicle needs Sync Connect, which I am not sure my car has. Can anyone else confirm this?

Or is there another way to remote start the car through an app on my phone?

ford pass wont do crap on my 16 expy, i set it all up when i purchased the vehicle and for some reason the expys were left out of the mix.??

Here is a link to Ford's list of vehicles and required options to be compatible with FordPass. Expeditions don't come on the list until 2018 model: https://owner.ford.com/fordpass/fordpass-sync-connect.html#sync-connect-enabled-vehicles . I would love to hear if there is another app that would accomplish this, but am guessing the Expy would need a hardware upgrade (modem) to be connected to cellular full time for that to be a possibility.

You need the LTE modem for this to work and that didn't come with the 2017 and earlier models. 2018 has it. I'm not sure if it is something that can be added later.
