I bought a 2003 XLT and am wondering if anyone here had luck playing DVDrs in their car and if so, which format worked best for you.
I'm not quite sure which brand dvd player came with my car but I can tell you it does not like the - format dvds. I will be getting a new burner this week that supports dual format and will try the + format.

I will report my results to you guys for those that are interested. If you have any comments, please post here as I would like to here of your experiences.

Thanks

2003 EB DVD

Don't get a new burner. I have tried both + and - and neither work. Do you know who makes this DVD? I am frustrated not being able to play back up dvds.

I bought a new Sony 510A dvd burner and I have been able to burn + discs that will play in the car. -r discs don't play at all.

Also, I'm not sure what brand the dvd player. The stupid people at the Ford Dealer here in Chula Vista (San Diego) don't know anything either or where to direct me.

My DVD-R worked, but didn't have any audio and the video was choppy. The disk works fine in my Apex dvd player inside though.

The disk is a Memorex burnt with a Plextor PX-708A

What brand media works good for everyone?

If your DVD player cant play SVCD's then it more than likley cant play DVD+r disc's. The Clarion, pasnasonic, alpine all have problems with +R medium, the -R is far more compatible. Computer drives now have firmware updates that allow them to use 2/4/8 speed medium, but mobile units are further behind, cant be flashed, etc, SO for your car USE 1 speed -R, and use someting non generic, like TDK or Memorex.

All three cars play TDK 1X -R with no problems, thats a Sony, Clarion, and Panasonic, and I've got 30 or so +r discs that wont play but are fine on the house unit.

Thats my 2 cents. if you really want to do it, use a DVD to VCD program and rip DVD's to 3 vcd's (quality is crap at 1 dvd to 1 vcd, but at 1 dvd to 3 vcd's its pretty good), now your making movie copyies for the car, using CDr's that cost cents rather than dollars, it might take up a bit more space in a holder, but it works and its cheap. 321 Studios DVD Xcopy is a great piece of software to use for this... just my 2 cents...

DVD Xcopy Platinum seems to burn my Memorex -R just fine. Have had no probs so far,\. ( knock on wood) via my Gateway PC I do not know what burner it is though. Took about a half hr. to burn Nemo. Of course for back up use only! DVD Xcopy Platinum was $99 @ Best Buy.
