as some of you know, the place i have my antenna mounted is not grounded properly. i am thinking of 2 options. one: braided grounding straps. two: no-ground antennas. what are your thoughts on those antenna's?

well i just ordered some grounding straps off ebay. im gonna buy some new tunable tip antennas (firestik). gonna get the 3' again. that is the length i am running now. if this doesnt work, i will have to go your way....i just really like the way they look up top with my lights.

hey walnuts careful. im going your way and the mount says 4ft ant. i think a 5ft would be fine but im going with a 4 ft just in case. and nvy i think some grounding strips could work. and dose anyone know how to tune those tips. my uncle has a firestik. hes going to take it to orw and have them tune it.

i completely forgot about ORW. i bought some straps and 2 new antennas, firestik tuneable. to tune them, you just need swr meter. if it has bolt in top, just start with it turned all the way down. then just adjust from there. i am trying to decide do i run the ground strap to the antenna or to the crossbar?

I used to do everything to my truck myself but when I let Dave work on my truck it gives me a reason to make the 45 min trip to go hang out... but I haven't ever really played with CBs and the CB I have I got from him so he tuned it for me... I installed it...:D but I don't know anything about grounding straps...

well then tell dave to read this damn thread and help me out! haha. yes, the antenna goes THRU the crossbar, so that is where my problem lies. do i ground the underside of the antenna or do i ground the crossbar?

i would say the ant just cause the cross bar should be grounded enough. if thats your problem then ground the ant.

the crossbar isnt grounded at all. the plastic "feet" that the crossbar sits into keeps it from being grounded.

o thats true. i forgot about the plastic feet. so then just ground the ant its self and it should work.
