Really wasn't sure how to characterize this sound. It's like i'm on a roller coaster and it's climbing up for that big drop. Anyway, I hear this sound at low speed. It happens intermittently, in reverse and in drive, increases in frequency as I step more on the pedal until it eventually goes away. I'll hear it again after I come to a complete stop at a light or sign and press the gas to get moving again.

I started the video as I was backing up but it didn't decide to start making noise until I went into drive around 00:17. Any thoughts on what this is? Previous owner said it started recently after he picked it up from an oil change. Any ideas? Thanks.

Washing machine is out of balance!

If the vehicle is not yet moving forward....

I would check under vehicle for clearance issues somewhere with the exhaust. In this video it sounds like exhaust may be contacting body, frame, etc....somewhere. Hopefully not rod knock...

OokeyIkky, from what you are describing, it is only occurring when the truck is physically moving. Correct? If so, I would be looking at the front CV shafts and seeing if you have one with some play in it. The other thing that I would ask is when you are driving, do you hear a whine coming from the front end with a possible high speed vibration that can only be felt in the steering wheel when at highway speeds. You may notice that the whine (or whirring) will go away when you do a slight turn one way, but remain when you turn the other way.

Would you happen to have a 97-98 truck? If so, take a good look at the cardigan joint on the rear driveshaft (the end near the tranny/transfer case). If these start to, they can make some noises like you are hearing. But again, this tends to make a high pitch whine/whirring sound at highway speeds.

Thanks Tom and Thermo for the replies.
Thermo: Yeah it only makes the noise when the vehicle is physically moving. I haven't noticed any whining. I do get some vibration on the gas pedal at higher speeds and the whole vehicle (whirrs?) and vibrates b/w 67-72 mph. no noise that i can recall while turning in either direction. I have a 2000 Expedition.

I know I have a lot of play on my front drive shaft, haven't checked the CV joints though.

OokeyIkky, you have found your problem. The U-joint on the front driveshaft is what is causing all your problems. Get that replaced and see if all your noises go away. I am guess that they will.

OokeyIkky, odds are, the level sensor inside the washer tank has bitten the dust and is alarming on you. That or the wires at the plug right there have been abused and are shorting out. But, normally it is the level switch inside the tank.
