Ok, I am new here so thanks for your help in advance.
03-expy 134000 miles 5.4 EB. I have a clicking noise coming from under the vehicle when in 2wd at slow speeds going forward, don't seem to hear it when in reverse. When i engage 4HI or 4Lo it goes away.

The other day I was in some mud and accidently put it into 4wheel low by turning the selector switch too far. I put it into 4hi and got out the mud. Then I stopped on the clean road to take it out of 4hi, turned the knob to 2w and proceeded to drive and I heard noises coming from the front wheels, I suspect the 4wheel drive had not fully disengaged so i tried the same process by engaging 4hi then 4lo then to 2w to no avail. I did this several times and the noise was still there. I was able to get it where the noise went a way but now I can hear a slight clicking in 2w at low speeds. I am assuming I may have messed up something in the hubs. Can anyone give me an idea of what may be causing the clicking.

Thanks.

Did your rig actually got into 4wd Low? because in order to activate the 4low, you have to put it in drive or neutral, switch it to 4L, then put it in reverse to lock it in. this helps prevent the accidental 4L. then in order to get it out of 4l, you have to do the same thing....

nvycrmn---I dont think it went into 4lo--I cant recall if I was in N or P went I turned the switch....sorry I know that doesnt help.....what I am mainly concerned about is after I got out of the mud onto drive pavement and switched it back to 2h when
I started driving I heard a clunking that would increase as I increased speed. I was coming from the front...almost like the 4wheel drive didnt completely disengage. I stopped then the truck....turned it to 4hi then 2hi.....drove forward and still heard the heavy clunking. After a while I was able to disengage it so I didnt hear the clunking.

I am wondering if I damaged the hubs when I drove it very slow when I heard the heavy clinking and that is causing the clicking at low speeds in 2hi.

One more note...now when I am in 4hi and make a turn left or right at low speeds I can hear a tremedous amount of noise from the front wheels. Its very rapid and its kind a click. The funny thing is before I got stuck in the mud, it never made this noise in 4hi and making turns.

Is it possible to lubricate the hubs?

thanks for your help
ps nice pic of your rig....like the black.

my wifes made a noise once. turns out the "spring" on the outter brake pad had shifted and popped up causing it to hit on the edge of the rim spoke. Long shot but thats what mine did. goodluck.
