thanks igneous that's what I was hoping to find. While I've got laptops I don't have a cell so I didn't want to buy a bluetooth for android or iphone to test if it'd work on a laptop. I'll check them out. Can you clear codes and see real time data too?

There's alot of software programs you can buy up to $500+ for pc, but I only got $10 in the elm327. The free version does some live data but I don't think you can clear codes. The grayed-out buttons are live in the full version and it's less than $20. I can't see trying to use a cell phone since screens are so small. IMO a pc is the way to go. Just make sure you d/l the drivers for the elm327.
