Well, I finally did the modification, went to the muffler shop and asked for a 6" piece 3" exhuast tube, came home, did the modification in about 20 minutes, test drove, very nice. Went from 12.7 AVG MPG to 15.8 not bad, now if I can just figure out my engine miss.........

No way you picked up 3mpg with that mod unless you replaced a completely plugged air filter at the same time. I did this mod. I'm not sure it really makes any difference in terms of either efficiency or power.

Nope, no increase in mileage. If Ford could even get a 10th of a mpg improvement by altering the induction path it would have been done, trust me. They're a HUGE team of engineers optimizing every little bit of these things for decades inching up the CAFE numbers. 4 mpg is HUGE HUGE HUGE. I would believe maybe a .0004mpg increase.

It does make a difference in fuel economy i think. My numbers seem to support it. Some common sources of misfires are from leaking coolant getting into cylinder 4 spark plug hole or just time for new plugs and coils.

Just changed the plugs, cleaned the MAF sensor and I'm not leaking coolant, so I'm just waiting for her to throw a code. I think it's a bad coil or bad injector, but it's been two weeks and I still have no SES.......
