Just thought I’d update this since the new compressor has been in about 6 months. In winter I need defrost so the compressor turns on first thing everyday. Still randomly makes the noise on startups once in a while. Most often after sitting for long time but not always. Will ***** you if your standing in front of the truck when it occurs.

Still works 100% and is quiet once started and maybe makes the noise a handful of times. Just waiting for it to either keep running or blow apart to get a warranty. The noise has been decreasing slowly in occurrence. Apparently it’s not unheard of for new ford compressors to do this out of the box.

I have been doing ac work for over 30 years and had a lot of GM A6,R4,DA6,HR6....Ford FS6, FS10, Denso compressors.
I have never had this type of issue.
Have had orifice tubes clogged giving extremely high head pressures, clogged or restricted condensers (dual path too), lots of internal noises in compressors (some vibration or moan, some clickings, rattle etc) but never a belt slip of squeal on engagement or problem when kicking on.
I think it has too much oil in system.

Refrigerant migrates to the coldest place Which is typically the compressor. Its the same reason a crankcase heater and or a anti migration solenoid valve would be installed on any compressor that runs is colder ambient conditions. It very well could be oil but considering its very common on newer cars right off the lot in colder climates its more than likely the refrigerant migrating to the compressor.

I have also worked in residential and commercial HVAC and know that many have compressor heaters but just never seen or heard a car do it.
Maybe it's not cold enough here. We do get below freezing for a good number of days a year.

Yeah, I'm sure it has a lot to do with your climate.

In Massachusetts pretty much everything gets a crankcase heater and a good portion of cars have slugging issues if the vehicle isn't warmed up first. Once some heat is generated at the compressor the issue pretty much goes away

I'll tell you what JE, I've got probably one of if not thee best Refrigeration guy in the DC area working for me but he's off till Mon. If you want to write specific questions, I'll be happy to print and send you back his answers or observations.....I've known Bobby since 1987 and have never seen him unable to direct the repair of a unit, even when the Factory Reps have failed...........
