Saw this for the F150, don't have money rightness but could be a step, have to relocate the 4x4 selector tho
Or possible switch to column shifter, but not sure how that would work with the power/telescope column.

my biggest problem now is switching from the Expedition's rotary shifter to my wife's 2016 Mercedes E350 wagon, which has a little joystick on the steering column, where 'up' is R, 'down' is D, and a pushbutton on the end is "P". On the upside her car has paddle shifters, which automatically put you in manual mode if you shift with one, but it automatically reverts to automatic if you either over/under rev a gear, or just stay in the same gear for more than 5 minutes or something.

I'd rather have the column shifter. There is so much wasted space in the center...

I've already gone to move mode dial to eco and accidentally put trans in neutral.

This was a big part of the reason I bought my SSV. It comes only with a column shifter.

The worst part of the rotary shifter is the manual downshift buttons. The shifter buttons on the column shifter are so much more intuitive. I know some people never downshift but when you are in the mountains or snow, it is very helpful over braking.

I found two more "worst" parts.

1. A few days ago, I was intending to shift from Reverse to Drive while I was still rolling very slowly (yeah, I know). Turned the knob the wrong way and shifted into Park. Ouch!

2. While intending to change the drive mode while moving, I reached for the shift knob instead of the drive mode knob and shifted from Drive to Neutral.

Dumb azz moves on my part in both cases. But, in my defense, I've only had the vehicle for 5 weeks. I'll learn.

These SUVs are WAY too expensive to begin with, so we don't need a fake shifter to add to the cost. There isn't mechanical linkage any more from the shifter to the transmission, so having a fake console shifter that costs hundreds of dollars and takes up valuable space just doesn't make sense. Putting in a fake shifter that is basically a big joystick is reminds me of electric cars pumping the sounds of a gas engine revving through the stereo system just to make the drivers somehow feel better.
