So my car started overheating and we thought maybe was leaking coolant. So we filled it back up and I drove it to work (maybe 2 miles away) and then it overheated again and when I popped the hood, the place where my coolant goes (I'm assuming the reservoir) is cracked all the way from the lid down the whole side and coolant just poured out.. What could be causing this? Expensive? :( We already changed out the thermostat after the first time it overheated.

ANY HELP WOULD BE SO GREATLY APPRECIATED!

what really would be nice to know would be the year and model

a bad coolant cap could have been the cause of the tank cracking you would be best to find a recovery tank at a junk/u-pull-it yard

how many miles on the expy

Plastic tanks are a stupid idea designed by stupid engineers that know better. When I was buying parts for school buses it was a yearly thing on a few of the later model Bluebirds. We even had brand new buses with swollen tanks. Imagine that. I doubt they can handle the 16lbs of pressure and the heat/cool cycle. The failures are usually in the seams.

Lets talk about the steel tanks on the 1994 buses. Guess what, they are still the original tanks and we had only replaced one.
