Crazy speedo!

So, my speedo works when it wants to. Often coming and going from moment to moment. Sometimes it doesn't even make it to 0 before it kicks back in. Sometimes it doesn't work for 10-20 mins, sometimes it works for hours.

The OD also doesn't work at all, I haven't pulled the dash, but I'm sure like all modern cars it's supposed to be driven off the same motor in the gauge as the speedo. Mine just has broken gears I'm sure (or was disconnected? Who knows)

But in the interest of not just throwing parts at it.... Anyone had similar issues? I think it's the dash, but could it be the speed sensor? Nothing else changes when it's not working. Shifts fine, so I suspect the dash. However I know on most modern vehicles the computer get's its signal from a second source and the speed sensor for the gauge is often a separate sensor that just drives the speedo. I'm having problems verifying on these.

My 01 has intermittent odometer. I saw posts on here that said it was classic prob from a failed solder joint. Need to pull the dash for simple solder reflow repair. Don't know how much hassle pulling the dash is though. Don't know if speedo is same deal or not.
