I live in my expedition so I idle a lot.
When the vehicle hasn’t been running for a while, it starts at 600rpm. But slowly it’ll get all the way up to 900, especially with the AC on. I turn the ac off and it stabilizes at around 850, turn it on it goes up to 950. Also the engine will make a weird humming noise. That’s all after about an hour of idling.
Yesterday I thought I had fixed this by revving the engine to try to clear the throttle and it seemed to work for a brief bit.
Highest rpm I’ve seen today was 978.
Is this normal? Any ideas what this could be? I want the damn thing purring at like 600-700!
