Custom tow mirrors for cheap

We recently purchased a travel trailer so I needed some towing mirrors to drive it safely. I looked around and found that there we not really any good options for this generation, unfortunately. There are some after market replacements but they're expensive and I don't want huge mirrors all the time.

That left me with a DIY solution. I found some UTV mirrors that would work and fabbed up some brackets from spare metal pieces I had.

The result works great, especially for < $50! I can even fold them in 90deg when I'm not towing and I'll probably leave the bracket mounted and remove the extra mirrors in the off season.

Those look excellent! I bought some strap-ons that were not ideal but got me through the tow but one thing I experienced was my driver's-side mirror slapping in violently when on a 2-Lane and a truck passed in the opposite direction. The additional outboard surface was too much for the break-away hardware in the oem mirror knuckle to handle. It slapped so hard I was surprised it didn't break my window! I wonder if when the mirror is opened up for the mod if that break-away can be tightened up a bit??

@scag386 That actually happened to me too in a two way construction zone. I was thinking you could probably jam a piece of felt or something into the hinge to provide more friction. Haven't tried anything yet though.
