Ok first I'd like to say I have searched Hi and Lo on here for any help on how to check the CV shaft and couldn't find anything, my jedi search skills are not strong! Here is my issue:

When the truck is in 4AWD it will make a popping sound when 4 wheel engages or if placed in 4h or 4l. I pulled the front drive shaft and replaced the ujoints which were shot. I put the shaft back in and it is doing the same thing. I can't pinpoint what side it is coming from either. I have tried moving the cv joints but can't feel any play in them. Also when the drive shaft was out there was no popping noise what so ever, so it appears to only happen when the front wheels are being driven.

Can one of the cv shafts be bad and still not have any play in it? Thanks for any help guys, this is killing me!

Is there anyway to tell what side it is coming from? I have turned the wheels both ways in a turn and can hear it no matter what, thanks for the help so far guys!
